Elderly woman found safe after search east of Rochester

An elderly Rochester woman was found safe after an extensive three-hour search Tuesday night in a wooded area on the city's eastern edge.

More than two dozen emergency responders searched the wooded area near 4551 College View Road S.E., using off-road vehicles as well as two fire engines with high intensity lights and thermal imaging cameras. Authorities responded to the call at 10:22 p.m.

The area is adjacent to the Eastside Wildlife Management Area, a 119-acre site, which includes 20 acres of open water and about 7 acres of an old crop field that has been planted to native grasses and forbs.

The woman was located by Rochester Fire Department personnel and was in good health, said Eric Kerska, fire department battalion chief. She was returned to her family by Olmsted County Sheriff's Office personnel.
