Fire destroys Austin home

Authorities who responded to an early morning fire Monday say the house at 1809 2nd Ave. S.W. "appears to be a total loss."

The Austin Fire Department and Austin Police Department were called by a neighbor at 2:25 a.m.

When officials arrived on the scene, half of the roof was in flames, said Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger.

The owner had recently moved out, he said, leaving the house unoccupied.

The home is owned by Carol Roberts.
