DOUGLAS — A rural Douglas farmhouse that was scheduled to be burned down for practice by the Byron Fire Department gave firefighters the real thing on Thursday.
Firefighters from Byron and Pine Island were called to the home at 7000 70th St. N.W. at 4:34 p.m. because of a report of a fire, according to the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office.
The building, valued at $30,000 and owned by Anthony Rossman, was a total loss.
Officials believe the fire was caused by the owner using a chop saw inside the house to prepare it for the practice burn.
