Fire destroys hay chopper in rural Dover

DOVER — It's harvest season, which also means farm implements and fields are at risk of fire, thanks to dry crops and overheated machines.

The Dover Fire Department responded about 5:15 p.m. Sunday to the 4100 block of 163rd Avenue Northeast, after a New Idea hay-chopper caught fire in a field, according to the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office.

There were no injuries, the report says, but the $3,000 chopper was a complete loss. There was no mention of damage to the crop.
