DOVER — Fire damaged a Dover man's house on Tuesday night.

Dover firefighters arrived shortly after 5 p.m. to see smoke billowing from the house, located at 118 N. Pearl Street.

About 25 firefighters from Dover and Eyota fought the blaze, which started in the basement of the older house and reached the attic, Dover Fire Chief Roger Ihrke said.

The owner of the house, Tim Todd, wasn't home at the time the fire started. No one was injured, Ihrke said.

The owner had been remodeling the basement of the house. Irhke said the cause of the fire probably was electrical.

"It's just a mishap," Ihrke said. "It was an older house, and had been added onto a few times."

Firefighters stayed at the scene until about 8 p.m. The fire turned into a "chaser," in which firefighters had to tear into several parts of the house to extinguish the flames, Ihrke said. The flames didn't seriously damage the exterior of the house.
