Fire near Mantorville burns land

MANTORVILLE — A fire burned land on the northwestern edge of Mantorville on Wednesday night.

About a dozen emergency vehicles went to the scene, including Mantorville volunteer firefighters, said witness Don Vaughan of Mantorville. The fire charred an area near Stagecoach Road and Jefferson Street, he said.

The number of acres that burned wasn't available, and the cause had not been determined.

The threat of wildfires spiked Wednesday throughout Minnesota, and the National Weather Service issued a "red flag warning."

Gusty winds and dry ground created a critical fire risk from the Brainerd lakes area north to the Rainy River and west to the Red River Valley and into North Dakota.
