Minnesota is being all Minnesota today -- but that doesn't need to stop you from getting out and about town. Unless there's a cuddly cat or pooch involved. Then stay home and make your own fun.
1. Informational meeting on Water/Ways
Head to the Commonweal Theatre in Lanesboro at 5:30 p.m. to learn about the town's participation in a Smithsonian program for 2017.
2. Bust out that first draft of the next great American novel
The Rochester Public Library wants writers to swing over to its lovely abode at 6:30 p.m. to read and critique each other's writing. The two-hour event may just help you finish that piece of work sitting on your shelf.

3. Throw down in some games
Visit the Rochester Public Library at 4 p.m. to play some of the library's games (you can also bring your own). But remember: there is no trading of Pokemon cards allowed. Keep those Pikachus to yourself, Pavel.
4. Rochester Civic Theatre: Auditions for "Mary Poppins"
The Rochester Civic Theatre is holding auditions at 7 p.m. Adults 16 and older, and boys and girls ages 8 to 12, are encouraged to audition. Be prepared to sing and dance, and bring sheet music for your audition song.
5. Read books and grab a pint
Forager Brewing Co. will combine books and brews in a bid for world domination tonight at 7. It's a laid-back affair, so don't worry about understanding every theme in "Moby-Dick." Just kidding -- you'll never understand even an iota of the white whale's tale.
