Flood operation center moved to city hall

PINE ISLAND — The Pine Island Flood Operation Center was to move to city hall Monday. It will be open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, and the phone number is (507) 356-8905. Also:

• The Pine Island United Fund takes tax-deductible donations for residents affected by the flood. Make checks payable to "Pine Island United Fund — Flood Relief" and mail to Pine Island United Fund, P.O. Box 976, Pine Island, MN 55963.

• For repair or replacement of flood-damaged furnaces, call Three Rivers Community Action at 732-7391 or the flood operations center.

• Building permits are required for flood repairs, but they're available for free at city hall. Document the damage and save receipts.

• In choosing a person or company to do repairs, the city advises people to get at least three bids, check references, get referrals from other people and consult with the Better Business Bureau.

• Prevent mold by removing flood-damaged items, cleaning thoroughly and disinfecting.

• Donated items are available for free outside the Pine Island Senior Center, at the Town and Country Store on Main Street in Mazeppa and at Jenny's Greenhouse along U.S. 63 north of Zumbro Falls.

• The Red Cross offers flood cleanup kits and mental health services for people struggling to cope with the flood.

• Other resources include United Way Help Line (211 from land-line telephones or 1-800-543-7709 from cell phones), the Senior Linkage Line at 1-800-333-2433, and the Veterans linkage line at 1-888-546-5838.
