Former Rochester woman pleads guilty in double-fatal crash

A 23-year-old former Rochester woman pleaded guilty in Olmsted County District Court on Friday in connection with a June 23, 2011, collision that killed two men near Byron.

Sondra Deward, who now lists a Longview, Minn., address, pleaded guilty Friday afternoon to two counts of criminal vehicular homicide and one count of criminal vehicular operation.

She was accused of driving drunk as she made a U-turn on U.S. 14, then headed the wrong way in the westbound lanes.

The resulting collision killed 22-year-old Emory Van Hook of Kasson and Tyler Hoff, 18, of Mazeppa. Eighteen-year-old Alexander Korbi of Mesa, Ariz., was seriously injured.

Dewerd's blood-alcohol concentration was 0.16 percent, or double the state limit, according to the complaint.
