Free meals offered to veterans

Free breakfasts and other things will be offered to veterans Thursday in honor of Veterans Day. They include:

• All Hy-Vee stores with in-store dining will offer a free breakfast from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday to veterans. What started as a promotional event offered by a few stores has become a company tradition, said Randy Edeker, Hy-Vee’s president and chief operating officer.

"Our Veterans Day Breakfast is one of the most rewarding activities Hy-Vee sponsors each year," Edeker said. "It gives us an opportunity to thank our veterans for all the sacrifices they made to secure our freedom."

Hy-Vee has 231 stores in the Midwest, including three in Rochester.

• The Lyle school district will host a breakfast for veterans at 7:30 a.m. Thursday. A program honoring veterans starts at 8:15 a.m. Veterans should call the school office and RSVP at (507) 325-2201 by noon Wednesday.
