Friends of plane crash victim to hold fundraiser

Friends of a woman who died when a Continental Airlines plane crashed into a New York home are holding a fundraiser in Rochester on Friday.

Twenty-four-year-old Madeline "Maddy" Loftus died Feb. 12, 2009 near Buffalo, N.Y.

A 2007 Saint Mary's University graduate, Loftus had been a standout player on the women's hockey team. She was on her way to a reunion of women's hockey players when she died.

Her best friend Stephanie Ashworth, along with six friends, formed LoveAlways to fund scholarships for collegiate student athletes.

The first $5,000 scholarship was awarded this spring to a student from Loftus' high school.
