SPRING VALLEY — Three Kingsland High School students will join the Minnesota Ambassadors of Music in July 2014 on a 16-day tour of seven European countries.
They are seniors Shelby Larson and Jordan Pokorney, and junior Amy Welch. To raise money, Shelby, Amy and Jordan, along with various local musicians, will be having a concert at 4 p.m. Sunday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Spring Valley. There is no cost for attendance, but monetary donations will be accepted to help with travel expenses.
The Minnesota Ambassadors comprise a select concert band and choir. Students are nominated by their music directors based on musical ability and quality of character. The group will include 270 students and parents as well as 31 staff members, many of them band and choir directors.
The tour will include concerts and sightseeing in London, Paris, Switzerland, Austria, Liechtenstein and Italy. The late Frank Bencriscutto, longtime University of Minnesota band director, and his wife, Jean, founded the Minnesota Ambassadors of Music in 1989.
