PLYMOUTH — A girl and a man who tried to rescue her in an apartment swimming pool in Plymouth have died at a hospital.
Hennepin County authorities say a 9-year-old girl and her 14-year-old sister were swimming in the pool at the Lancaster Village Apartments on Monday afternoon when the younger girl went under water. A 26-year-old family friend jumped in to help but began to struggle in the water.
Officials say an apartment maintenance worker heard the older girl's cries for help. He jumped in the pool and pulled both victims out of the water.
KARE-TV says they were taken to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale and were pronounced dead a short time later.
