GOODHUE — The preliminary coroner's report on the death Friday of 10-year-old Derek Strickland of rural Goodhue is that the death was accidental, the Goodhue County Sheriff's Department reported Monday.
Authorities were called at about 5:15 p.m. Friday and told that the boy had been climbing a tree at his house and was having medical issues. Family members gave him CPR until medical help arrived. Attempts to revive him failed.
The boy's funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Goodhue. He was a fourth-grader in the Goodhue school district.
