Student Judges Luke Schmidt, Olivia Waltman, and Laura Eberle compare notes and compile scores during judging as part of Stewartville Middle School's History Day Fair Thursday afternoon February 11, 2016.

Sixth-grade students at Stewartville celebrated history this week with projects centered on this year's Minnesota History Day theme, "Exploration, Encounter and Exchange."

Students researched presentations that ranged from performances to website creation to display board, displaying them Thursday at Stewartville Middle School.

The sixth-graders created more than 95 projects that were judged in 15 judging groups, said Curt Hughes, a sixth-grade history teacher.

"These presentations really are the culmination of a lot of hard work," said Hughes in a press release.

Winning entries from this contest advance on to the Regional History Day Competition on March 17 at Winona State University, and possibly on to the Minnesota State History Day.
