Hayfield boys dribble ball to Blooming Prairie in 1961

1986 — 25 years ago

T.J. Malone of Rochester placed first in the 8-year-old division of the Jaycees' state Punt, Pass and Run football competition. Malone beat out 39 other 8-year-olds.

1961 — 50 years ago

Three Minnesota Twins players — pitcher Jack Kralik, catcher Earl Battey and outfielder Dan Dobbek — will headline Methodist Church’s annual father and son dinner.

Six Hayfield boys set out on Minnesota Highway 30 at 3 p.m. and proceeded to dribble a basketball for 11 miles to Blooming Prairie. They covered the distance in two hours and 31 minutes and received support from a police escort, a flat-bed truck carrying a student cheering section and a 15-car caravan. The basketball team didn’t do as well, losing to Blooming Prairie 46-36 in the holiday tournament final.
