Hayfield sex assault case will go to trial

MANTORVILLE — A Hayfield man is taking his sexual assault case to a jury.

Logan James Hegna, 22, pleaded not guilty in December to two counts of felony third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

No settlement was reached Wednesday in Dodge County District Court; a trial has been set for May 2.

The charges stem from an alleged incident Aug. 14, when a juvenile female visited Hegna at his home to play video games. Hegna began removing the victim's clothes, the complaint says, though the girl said, "no, I don't want to do this."

The victim said Hegna told her she'd be fine, then put his hands around her neck, preventing her from screaming for help, court documents say. After the alleged assault, the girl said she asked a friend to text her, pretend to be her mother and demand she come home.

She didn't tell her parents, the report says.

About three weeks later, the girl discovered she was pregnant and contacted Hegna. The victim said Hegna wanted her to get an abortion and "would not admit to the rape because of a military job," the complaint says.

Hegna allegedly assaulted her again that day; the girl went home and told her parents, who called law enforcement.
