Rebuilding U.S. 14 through Rochester will have to wait until next year because the Minnesota Department of Transportation received only one bid, and it was higher than the amount budgeted.
MnDOT and Rochester will share the cost of the project, estimated at $4.7 million, with MnDOT paying $3.2 million and the city $1.5 million. The lone bid came in at $6 million.
The project will now be bid as a one-year project rather than the initial two-year timeline. The new bidding process is set for this winter, and work would begin next spring or summer. MnDOT hopes winter bidding will be more competitive.
