HOUSTON — The Houston school's "Coaches vs. Cancer" fundraiser collected more than $9,000 in February to help the family of Alysta King, a Houston Elementary fourth-grader, pay for her expenses as she fights Burkitt's lymphoma.
Coaches, players, parents and community members helped out with the activities, which included a bake sale, halftime shootout, paper airplane toss, 50/50 raffle, game ball auction, and a free-throw-a-thon.
Since her diagnosis last fall, Alysta has been treated at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Wis. The family hopes she can come home in late May or early June.
