The largest farm equipment auction in U.S. history got under way in Grand Meadow when 1,500 to 2,000 bidders from 35 states came to the auction of $3 million of used farm equipment from Minnesota Implement Co. The company is closing down its Grand Meadow site and relocating to Yuma, Ariz.
A trio of rock bands headlined by the Switzerland hard rock band Krokus will perform at the Civic Center this week. The Krokus album "Headhunter" has sold more than 2 million copies.
1960 – 50 years ago
Sub-freezing temperatures jumped about 40 degrees in 12 hours today to near 70, the warmest since Sept. 24, 1959. The 1:30 a.m. reading was 29, but the temperature climbed rapidly, to 65 by 11 a.m. April showers and occasional thundershowers are predicted, with continued mild conditions expected throughout the week.

1935 – 75 years ago
Members of the Rochester Junior Chamber of Commerce are going to be fingerprinted. Enoch Dison of the Rochester Police Department will record the prints of the group on special civilian fingerprint cards furnished by the U.S. Department of Justice. These will be sent to Washington for the permanent files of federal investigators. People throughout the country are recording their fingerprints in the event of a kidnapping or a disfiguring accidental death.
