Inmate escapes transport van; caught hours later

ALBERT LEA — An inmate in a van being driven to the Twin Cities through Freeborn County escaped this morning but was later caught.

Freeborn County Sheriff Kurt Freitag said Todd Larry Tennin, 31, who is wanted in Ramsey County, was in a van owned by Inmate Services Corp. It was being driven on Interstate 90 northwest of Albert Lea when Tennin broke a rear window and escaped; it was reported at 4:38 a.m.

The sheriff's office and Albert Lea police searched for Tennin and found him near a SuperAmerica station. He was arrested without incident and taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea. His injuries were not considered serious.

He will be charged in Freeborn County District Court with criminal damage to property and escape from custody.
