Iowa man charged in burglaries

An Iowa man has been charged with four felonies after being arrested in connection with several burglaries.

Paul Sanchez-Morales, 28, of New Hampton, Iowa, was charged Monday in Mower County District Court with three counts of second-degree burglary-dwelling, felony theft and misdemeanor theft.

According to the police report, officers were dispatched about 4:15 p.m. Friday to a burglary in progress in the 1800 block of Fourth Avenue Southwest. A man was seen leaving in a vehicle. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken, according to the report.

Police found the vehicle later that day in the parking lot of the McDonald's on Oakland Avenue West. Officers identified Sanchez-Morales and noticed that his shoe print matched those left in the snow "at several burglary scenes" and he admitted to being at the scenes, Police Chief Brian Krueger said.

The suspect also allegedly attempted a burglary in the 1100 block of 15th Avenue Northeast, which was reported about 5:30 p.m. Friday. Handprints were found on the side of the residence, there was damage to a door and a back window was broken, according to the report, although nothing was taken.
