Jewelry returned to woman after burglary

A bag full of jewelry was tracked back to its owner this weekend after a man found the bag in a Holiday convenience store bathroom Saturday evening.

The man allegedly noticed the bag, which was full of costume jewelry and loose change, in the convenience store bathroom said Rochester police Lt. Mike Sadauski. Police were notified around 10:30 p.m.

A receipt in the bag led officers to an elderly woman who lives on the 800 block of 10th Street Northwest. The woman was unaware that her home had been burglarized but claimed the jewelry.

She checked out her house after police contacted her, but said the only signs that someone had been in her house was dresser drawers that were open around the house.

She is also unsure when the burglary precisely occurred, but thinks it happened between 11 a.m. Friday and 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Sadauskis said officers are reviewing video that points toward the convenience store restroom, but the investigation is ongoing.
