John P. Kelly Jr. — Rochester

The funeral service for John P. Kelly Jr. will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 22, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Rochester, with Pastor Karna Hagen Moskalik officiating. John will be interred in the Mausoleum at Grandview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Rochester. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, in River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home.

Mr. Kelly, 86, of Rochester, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2016, at his daughter's house in Rochester. John was born July 22, 1929, to John and Verona ( Baier) Kelly. On Sept. 12, 1948, he married Bonnie Tweite at St. John's Lutheran Church in Kasson. They were married for 60 years. Bonnie passed away Nov. 1, 2008.

As a young man, John worked as a farmer; he drove truck for 12 years and later retired from Rochester School District 535 after 29 years of service. John was a longtime member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and the Eagles FOE No. 2228. He enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, horses, tractors, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include Kathy Kelly of Harris, Minn., Barb (Carl) Girtler of Sparks, Nev., Patricia Hameister of Rochester, and Richard (Cindy) Kelly of North Mankato, Minn. He has seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Bonita Heidke of Fountain, brothers, Curtis (Kathy) Kelly of Springfield, Mo., and Doug Kelly of Rochester.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bonnie; two brothers, Floyd and Robert Kelly; brother-in-law, Harold Heidke; and granddaughter, Krista Doocy.
