Judge cancels warrant for woman accused of abandoning puppies

A district judge has canceled an arrest warrant issued for a Grand Meadow woman who is accused of abandoning 17 puppies in an Olmsted County ditch last month and who missed her first court appearance.

The warrant was issued June 3, when Doreen Esther Nelson failed to show up for her arraignment. On Monday, Olmsted District Judge Robert Birnbaum granted her request to quash the warrant.

Nelson is now scheduled to make her first court appearance on Thursday. She is charged with three misdemeanor counts of animal maltreatment.
