Lake City librarian suit dismissed

LAKE CITY — A civil lawsuit filed by the former Lake City librarian against the city and several city officials has been dismissed.

In her suit filed last year, Sheryl Mooers alleged she was wrongfully fired and sexually harassed and that the city violated opening meeting laws. She had sought back pay, including loss of benefits and seniority, actual and punitive damages and reasonable attorney fees. Those costs are believed to exceed $50,000.

But on Oct. 8, Wabasha County District Court Judge Terrence Walters dismissed the claim with prejudice, meaning it can't be refiled. He filed no documents explaining his decision.

Mooers said she was hired as librarian in 2010, moving to the city from Mississippi. In January, 2012, she was suspended as librarian and fired March 12.
