Local Veterans Day events

Sunday

Wasioja,2 p.m. Wasioja Church. 2013 Veterans Day Service by Friends of Wasioja.Featured speaker will be President Abraham Lincoln (Dale Blanshan) on the Gettysburg Address.

Monday

Rochester:10:30 a.m. Rochester International Event Center, 7333 Airport View Drive S.W., Rochester. Free breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., followed by the program at 10:30. Emcee is KTTC anchor Robin Wolfram. Speakers are Col. Rodney Peterson, retired; Kay Swenson, Gold Star mother; and Chad Stowers. Area color and honor guards will participate.

Rochester:11 a.m. UCR atrium entrance. Rochester Community and Technical College Armed Forces and Veterans Club's annual Veteran's Day Program will have a color guard by Whitlock-Sonnenberg VFW Post 1215, a bugler provided by the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office and the RCTC music faculty, and a performance of the national anthem by an active-duty Army soldier. The keynote speaker will be Chief Master Sergeant (retired) Jeff Gustafson, Air Force. Free.

Inver Grove Heights: 10 a.m. Veterans Memorial Community Center 8005 Barbara Avenue. The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs, the Minnesota Commanders' Task Force and Gov. Mark Dayton lead a celebration of veterans. Speakers include Gov. Dayton, Veterans Affairs Commissioner Larry Shellito, Adjutant General of the Minnesota National Guard Maj. Gen. Richard Nash, U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar and others.
