Man accused of watching pornographic video in view of coffee shop customers

A misdemeanor charge has been filed against a Rochester man for allegedly watching a pornographic video on a laptop computer — in full view of other customers at a coffee shop.

Deeq Ahmed Abdi, 25, 109 16th St. N.E., No. 9, is charged with misdemeanor watching of pornographic material in public.

A police officer who stopped at the Dunn Bros. Coffee shop at 120 Elton Hills Drive N.W. about 7:30 p.m. on April 14 said he noticed Abdi sitting at a table on the sidewalk in front of the glass window, watching a pornographic video.

The officer said Abdi and another man were seated with their backs to the windows and that 15 to 25 people inside could see his laptop screen. The officer said a woman with a 9-year-old boy were in line behind him.

Two officers said they stood inside the store trying to block the image from view of others. The incident report said Abdi watched two videos. One of the officers approached Abdi, who quickly closed the second video. Abdi reportedly said the laptop was not his but said he saw a pornographic video on the laptop. He told police it "just popped up. and he closed it out right away."
