Man allegedly assaulted in SE Rochester

A 19-year-old Racine, Wis., man was allegedly assaulted by multiple men in southeast Rochester early Wednesday.

The incident was reported to have happened around 12:30 a.m. in an apartment building on the 800 block of 21st Avenue Southeast, near Rochester Community Technical College.

According to authorities, three people — the 19-year-old victim and two 20-year-old men — were inside of an apartment unit when there was "loud banging" on the door. When looking through the peep hole, there were between five to eight men standing outside. None of whom, the victim said, he recognized. The victim then ignored the banging.

Then the apartment door was kicked down, and the victim ran to the bathroom and tried to barricade the door. The two other residents ran to their own bedrooms, according to Capt. John Sherwin. During the alleged altercation, the suspects punched the victim in the face and took his cell phone. The other residents were not injured during the incident.

The victim refused medical treatment, and said that he didn't know any of the suspects, and didn't know "why they did what they did," Sherwin said.
