Man caught stealing scrap metal in Red Wing

RED WING — A Ham Lake man was arrested Thursday morning in Red Wing after being caught trying to steal metal from Capital Safety along U.S. Highway 61, according to a press release issued by Red Wing Police Chief Roger Pohlman.

Officers responded to 3849 Sala Way just after 8 a.m. after suspicious activity was reported at the facility's recycling bin. They arrived to find a truck parked in the parking lot and one male fleeing on foot. The man was apprehended without incident just across the highway in AP Anderson Park.

The suspect has been identified as Christopher Reynolds and his truck was found to contain scrap aluminum valued at $327. Material matching that amount and description had been reported stolen in Hastings.

Reynolds is currently being held in Goodhue County Adult Detention Center, pending charges. He's expected to face charges of motor vehicle theft, theft of property (aluminum), driving after revocation, fifth-degree possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the press release.
