Man convicted in punching death of Minneapolis man

MINNEAPOLIS — A Hennepin County jury has convicted a man of fatally punching another man in downtown Minneapolis.

Jurors deliberated about five hours before convicting Jonathan Rubio-Segura of second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter Friday.

Prosecutors used surveillance tapes and testimony to show that Rubio-Segura punched Anthony Gale of Minneapolis without provocation.

Gale had his hands in his pockets at the time. He fell backward and hit his head on the concrete. The Hennepin County Attorney's office says Rubio-Segura then punched him in the face again.

Gale was punched early on March 26, 2010, near Hennepin Avenue and Fifth Street. He died 12 days later from a head injury.
