The driver of a car that slammed into the side of a dump truck this morning is believed to have suffered significant leg injuries in the crash.
Officials responded about 7:30 a.m. to 12th Street Southwest just west of its intersection with Broadway Avenue South. There, witnesses told them a car traveling eastbound "at a high rate of speed" crossed into the westbound lanes and struck an empty dump truck.
The collision knocked the truck onto its passenger side, blocking both westbound lanes. The car remained upright, but the driver was pinned because of extensive damage to the front end. He was extricated by crews from the Rochester Fire Department and taken to a local hospital.
The dump truck driver was not seriously injured, officials said.
The Minnesota State Patrol also responded to the scene; the investigation is ongoing.
