Man jailed for alleged assault on brother
A 25-year-old Austin man is in jail after he allegedly choked his brother nearly to the point of unconsciousness.
The incident apparently started about 12:15 p.m. Sunday, when officers were called to a home in the 300 block of 37th Street Southwest.
According to the police report, the 23-year-old victim, a woman and the woman's 12-year-old daughter were watching a movie when the two adults began tickling the girl.
The girl's laughter woke up the suspect, who was sleeping in another room. He got up, the report says, and an argument ensued, which then turned physical.
According to the police report, the older brother performed a "rear naked chokehold" on the younger man. Photos of the alleged victim indicated ligature marks on his neck as well as a bloody lip.
The 25-year-old remains in the Mower County Jail pending charges. The Austin Post-Bulletin generally doesn't name suspects until they've been charged.
