Man placed on home monitoring after child porn conviction

WABASHA — An Elgin man will be on home monitoring for 180 days, must register as a predatory offender and attend a sex offender program after pleading guilty to three counts of possession of child pornography.

Two identical counts against Daniel John Sell, 55, were dismissed as a result of the plea agreement in November in Wabasha County District Court. He was charged with the five felonies in August.

The charges stem from an investigation that began in January 2014 with a search warrant at Sell's home. Law enforcement seized computers, smartphones and a laptop, which the criminal complaint says contained more than 2,000 images of children in sexual poses or acts.

Sell must also complete the psychological-sexual evaluation the judge ordered during his Feb. 5 sentencing.
