Man pleads not guilty to assault with baseball bat

A Rochester man is taking his case to trial after pleading not guilty to hiding in his estranged wife's home and assaulting her with a baseball bat when she came home.

Chad Edward Christensen, 33, of 1507 Century Knoll Lane N.E., was charged with three counts of first-degree burglary; second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon; and two counts of domestic assault, all felonies, after the October 2012 incident.

He entered not guilty pleas to all charges Friday in Olmsted County District Court. A jury trial date has been set for May 20.

Christensen broke into a house in the 3400 block of 80th Street Southeast in Pleasant Grove Township on Oct. 22 and waited until the woman came home from work, according to the criminal complaint. He struck her with the bat and she was unconscious as times.

The woman's new boyfriend arrived at the house, the report says, and called 911 when he saw the couple inside.
