Man put on probation for misconduct

A 53-year-old Sausalito, Calif., man was put on probation for 30 years after being convicted in Olmsted County District Court of sexually abusing a boy with a disability.

Judge Robert Birnbaum stayed execution of a 12-year prison sentence for Stephen Joseph Magner. Magner was put on probation, ordered to enter a sex offender treatment program, have no access to the Internet without approval, and have no contact with the victim, among other restrictions.

Magner, who was known to the boy, allegedly abused him on one occasion, according to the complaint. He pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a person younger than 13. He pleaded not guilty to eight other felonies, which were dismissed.

Magner also was sentenced to serve two days in jail and either do 100 hours of community work service or pay a $1,000 fine.
