Man robbed near Silver Lake

A 40-year-old man reported he was robbed of his wallet and cellphone early Wednesday near Silver Lake in Rochester.

The victim said he was walking home from work about 12:15 a.m. Wednesday on Seventh Street Northeast near Silver Lake when a silver car pulled alongside the man.

Two occupants, a male and a female, in the car asked if the man had any money. He replied, "No," and continued walking. The two people in the car then got out and attempted to go through the man's pockets.

When the man resisted, he was forced to the ground. The suspects took a wallet containing several hundred dollars and a cellphone, according to Police Capt. John Sherwin.

The victim was able to recognize part of the license plate as the suspects drove away, but he could not say whether it was a Minnesota plate.
