A Rochester man accused of watching a pornographic video on a computer in view of other customers at a coffee shop has waived his right to a jury trial.
Deeq Ahmed Abdi, 25, instead has asked for a court trial, in which the judge will determine a verdict, which now is scheduled for late January.
Abdi made the request Tuesday during a settlement conference in Olmsted District Court. Abdi is charged with a misdemeanor, watching pornographic material in public. He is accused of sitting at a table on the sidewalk in front of a glass window of a coffee shop in northwest Rochester the evening of April 14. Fifteen to 25 people inside the business could see the computer screen, according to police.
Abdi pleaded not guilty in his first appearance in May.
