About 50 people gathered to dedicate the $18.5 million Mayo Civic Center Arena. The ceremony included the unveiling of three plaques in the arena lobby listing the names of city officials and contributors to the project. The Rochester Quilters Sew-ciety donated a quilt depicting local historical sites. The quilt took 65 volunteers three years to complete.
1961 — 50 years ago
Rochester police are searching for a masked gunman who held up employees at Harry’s Bar and Cafe, 4 N. Broadway. The bandit got away with $5,000. The two employees were locked in the basement; they broke out and called police.

The second annual Girls Get-Together sponsored by the B.P.O. Does will include dancing, fortune-telling and impromptu programs at the Elks. Participants came dressed as street urchins, sailors, little girls and comic characters.
