The Mayo Clinic Center for Social Media is expecting to exceed last year's participation
during its Fourth Annual Health Care Social Media Summit .
In 2011, there were 375 participants from 38 countries
Goals of the Rochester summit include:
• Determining the best social media tools for hospital communicators, doctors and nurses.

• Seeing why patients use social media now, more than ever.
• Hearing case studies about e-health and the mobile movement.
• Finding out how to deal with a hospital crisis with the power of social media.
The Center for Social Media says it "exists to improve health globally by accelerating effective application of social media tools throughout Mayo Clinic and spurring broader and deeper engagement in social media by hospitals, medical professionals and patients." The summit lasts through Thursday, with events for Social Media Health Network members through Friday.
Social media includes Facebook, Twitter and other Internet-based communication.
