An informational meeting for students interested in attending a U.S. service academy has been scheduled for March 20 in Rochester. Their parents may also attend the one-hour program.
Academy representatives will be at John Marshall High School's Rocket Center at 2 p.m. March 20. A cadet from the U.S. Military Academy will speak, and people will get information needed for the application process.
Organizers say students who qualify would be those who are physically fit and academically prepared for the academies' heavy courseload. Students are typically in the top quarter of their high school class and have the potential to score 620 SAT verbal and 650 SAT math or 26 ACT English and 28 ACT math. Participation in varsity athletics and nonathletic extracurricular activities are also considered.
