Mill and overlay work starts next week

Starting Monday, Rochester Public Works’ Infrastructure Maintenance Division will begin work to replace street surfaces in various locations throughout the mity.

The first step, milling is expected to continue through May 11.

Each milled street will be overlaid with an approximate two inches of new bituminous asphalt, in a process that is expected to start May 14 and continue into the middle of June.

Yellow no-parking signs have started going up along streets that will receive the mill-and-overlay treatment. All parking will be prohibited in the posted work zones from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, with violators being ticketed or towed.

Parking in the marked areas is allowed on weekends and after the posted hours.

Public Works is advising caution on streets between the milling and overlay process.

After the milling, there will be bumps at each end of the milled areas along with exposed or raised manhole castings and gate valve risers. Residents are encouraged to find alternate routes when possible.

The timing for completion of each street segment is weather dependent.

A map showing the locations and order of completion can be found on the Public Works website .
