Minn. man pleads guilty to Little League theft

HIBBING, Minn. — A Hibbing man has pleaded guilty to a pair of allegations that he stole more than $50,000 from a local Little League over a 10-year span.

The St. Louis County Attorney's Office says Jacob F. Smokrovich pleaded guilty Wednesday to theft and financial fraud.

Police say Smokrovich stole almost $55,000 from the Hibbing Little League between 2001 and 2011.

Smokrovich has already paid $20,000 of restitution. A Hibbing Daily Tribune report says he has agreed to pay back the next $20,000 within a year and the remainder of about $14,700 within two years.

If he pays back all the money on schedule the charges will be dismissed. If he doesn't, the case will proceed to sentencing.
