A 91-year-old woman who apparently wandered from her home was found dead this morning outside a house in southeast Rochester.

Marie Schinke was last seen by family members at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in her home in the 1200 block of Ninth Avenue Southeast. When family checked on her Wednesday morning, she wasn't home, although her coat and purse were there.

Her body was found by a family member at about 11 a.m. behind a home in the 1000 block of 13 1/2 Street Southeast, said Rochester Police Capt. John Sherwin.

Though the investigation is ongoing, "it just appears to be a tragedy," with no indication of foul play, Sherwin said.

Family and the police this morning launched a search, concerned that she might have been exposed to freezing temperatures for an extended period of time.
