No robbery at Dairy Queen

A call that came in to Austin Police dispatch Thursday evening of a robbery at Dairy Queen turned out not to be the case.

"There was no robbery," said Austin Police Capt. Dave McKichan.

A woman called dispatch just before 8 p.m. Thursday. She could not say what the problem was at first, but upon answering yes or no questions, she answered "yes" when asked if there was a robbery. Police were investigating the reasons for the call, said Lt. Rene Phan.

Austin Police and Mower County Sheriff's Office responded and set up a perimeter so they could get a full view of the building, Phan said. Police were not sure if the woman came out of Dairy Queen or if she had been outside the building, Phan said. Officers then talked with the woman outside.

She was placed on a hold for her safety, McKichan said. It seemed to be a case of mental health issues, not a public safety concern, according to police.
