Retiring Rochester Rep. Kim Norton took to Facebook on Friday to make clear that she will not challenge Rochester Mayor Ardell Brede in 2018 if he decides to run again.
Norton announced on Thursday she would not seek a sixth term in the House, citing frustration with partisan politics. During an interview with the Post-Bulletin , the Rochester Democrat said she is seriously considering a run for Rochester mayor in 2018.
But Norton wants to make clear she has no intentions of running against the city's current mayor.
"For the record!!! I might consider running for Mayor in 2018 IF Mayor Brede retires. I've always supported him and will until he's ready to retire," Norton wrote on her Facebook page .
Brede said in an interview today he has not decided yet whether he will run again for mayor in three years.

"I don't have to make any decision on that for at least a couple of years, and then we'll see," he said.
Brede has served as Rochester's mayor since 2003.The city's charter limits how long a mayor can serve to 12 years, but a state ruling found term limits unconstitutional for elected officials. While the office of mayor is nonpartisan per the city's charter, Brede has voiced his support for DFL candidates in the past and donated $400 to Gov. Mark Dayton's re-election campaign last year.
