NEW WINDSOR, N.Y. (AP) — Gen. David Petraeus (peh-TRAY'-uhs) is scheduled to speak to a gathering of 400 veterans in upstate New York, including 100 recipients of the Purple Heart.
The Army general picked by President Barack Obama to replace the military's top commander in Afghanistan will be the keynote speaker at the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor Tribute in New Windsor on Friday afternoon.
Obama tapped Petraeus for the job after accepting Gen. Stanley McChrystal's resignation Wednesday. He currently oversees the wars in both Afghanistan and Iraq as head of U.S. Central Command.
New Windsor is home to the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor.
