Those tools are there in case of an emergency. We don’t want the people of Rochester to feel fear when you see us because we don’t have any intentions to want to utilize those [weapons],” Francisco Torres, a member of Los Brown Berets-Minnesota said. I think that people get a misconception because they see the weapons, or they see the vest.” Mendoza said. “Our goal is to get everyone home safely, looking the same way they left this morning. To us, it’s just about structure and making sure people feel safe. They shouldn’t feel threatened. We feel threatened by the police and that’s why we are here.” (Traci Westcott / twestcott@postbulletin.com)
