PLAINVIEW — An 82-year-old man driving from his home in Chicago to Minnesota crashed in a pickup along the way and was found dead Wednesday in the Wisconsin woods nearly three weeks later, according to Plainview police.
Police said Wednesday that Edward Kruger, who occasionally lived in Elgin, was found dead in Columbia County, north of Madison, after the pickup went off Interstate 90.
The pickup went through a fence and into a cornfield, coming to rest in a wooded area, according to authorities. Kruger's body was found by a farmer. A preliminary investigation suggests that Kruger experienced a medical event before crashing.
An alert had been issued Monday asking for the public's help in finding Kruger when he didn't show up in Elgin as planned. Police said Kruger was believed to have been on his way to see relatives in Brooklyn Center when he disappeared June 29.
Plainview police were investigating Kruger's disappearance on behalf of family members who live there.
