Police identify victim of Rochester motorcycle crash

Rochester police have released the identity of the man who died in a motorcycle crash early Thursday morning.

Officials believe Jack Anthony Scaccio, 35, of Rochester, was westbound on U.S. 14 when he took the exit to Olmsted County Road 22. He apparently lost control of the motorcycle at the base of the ramp, swerved to the right and flipped, said Capt. John Sherwin.

"The timing of this is unclear," Sherwin said, "but it happened sometime overnight." The motorcycle was spotted near a retention pond about 8 a.m. by a motorist heading eastbound on the frontage road near the scene, he said.

A helmet was found at the scene, but it's unknown if Scaccio had been wearing it, Sherwin said.

The crash remains under investigation.
